Course code: ΜΑ02 – Knowledge of the basic concepts related to clinically serious hospital infections based on their severity in terms of morbidity and mortality
– Understanding of key clinical signs of clinically serious hospital infections
– Understanding the differentiation between clinically serious hospital infections at the level of diagnosis
– Understanding of the main treatments of clinically serious hospital infections
– Knowledge of basic concepts of multiorgan failure associated with the presence of clinically serious hospital infections
– Acquire knowledge to resolve common problems associated with the presence of clinically serious hospital infections
– Understand basic principles of prevention and control of clinically serious hospital infections

Semester: 1st – Introduction to infections in the critically ill – sepsis and shock
– Aspiration pneumonia
– Pneumonias
– Upper respiratory infections
– Liver infections – Pancreatitis
– Bone-soft tissue infections
– CNS infections
– Ulcerative abscesses
– Urinary tract infections
– Infections of heart valves and vessels
– Multi-resistant microbes
– Specific infections and treatment in multi-resistant microbes

  Students are given articles and reviews from the International Bibliography
  Teaching and learning methods
  The module is taught in the form of academic lectures and tutorial exercises and assignments. Some modules use the methods of working groups and real-life problem solving to encourage feedback learning.
  Evaluation/grading methods
  Assignment 30%, written exams 70%
